ZFC1578

Bennington Flag/replica

Sub-collection: Small Flags

Flag on 10.5". Purchased at the North American Vexillological Association conference in Sacramento, California. Attended with Howard Madaus who gave a presentation on early American flags. He used Ben Zaricor's 27-star US flag in this presentation. This flag (ZFC1578) is a replica of an old flag owned by the Bennington Museum in Bennington, Vermont. It was long believed to date from the American Revolution; some even claimed it as the oldest Stars and Stripes. Textile analysis has now shown that it dates from the 19th century. It may have been a commemorative flag for the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 1826.
