Germany // Army Helmet / M-1940
The M-1940 helmet first appeared in March of 1940 following a redesign of the manufacturing process which now incorporated more automated stamping techniques. The first helmets issued received only one decal on the left side of the helmet. The decal was discontinued on the M-1094 helmet in 1943. Helmets of this type were characteristic of having rolled edges ands stamped air vents that were embossed directly into the steel shell. Paint configuration varied from medium to dark (black-green) with varying degrees of texture. Some were issued in a slate grey color.
The interiors were smooth painted unless factory or field modified. Many were slightly heavier than the previous M-1938 helmet. The interiors had a liner band system, which is missing from this piece.
These helmets date from 1940-1943.
