1890, Rhode Island Commemorative "Cotton Centenary" Flag, with Original Mounting Pole, Very Rare, Choice Very Fine.
This important original banner-like flag was manufactured by Dunnel Manufacturing Company for distribution at the Cotton Centenary of 1890 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. That event was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Samuel Slater's cotton spinning machinery at the Old Slater Mill. This original 50 x 32 flag-banner is printed on cotton in red, white, blue, and brown, with three repeating images of "Samuel Slater" and "Old Slater Mill" within oval wreaths. The background consists of red, white and blue stripes, with red and white stars. This flag is mounted on its original, 74 wooden pole with a pike style top end. Overall this flag is in nice condition, with some fading and some small holes and tears here and there. This Very Rare and unusual flag is complete and ready for display.
