ZFC 3211 US // Army Transportation Corps / 533d Co. Guidon
This guidon was made at Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DPSC) Dept of Mfg, and is dated 5/24/82. Guidons for companies and detachments of the US Army's combat support services (excluding those for headquarters units of groups and higher formations) follow the same pattern as those of the combat arms: a field in the first-named branch color, in the case of Transportation this is brick red; and, with the branch insignia, numerals and letters in the second named branch color, or golden yellow.
Transportation companies usually support maneuver forces directly, hauling cargo and soldiers in support of exercises and deployments for a brigade, division, or corps. Vehicles include the 5 ton truck and tractor, and the 30 foot trailer and 5000 gallon tanker. Larger vehicles push large quantities of cargo from theater to corps level, so that lighter trucks can take the smaller loads forward to the soldiers on or near the battlefield.
In then 1980s and 1990s the 533d Transportation Company, is part of the US Forces Command (FORSCOM), headquartered at Fort Benning, Georgia.
