Pay Chest // Civil War / Confederate

It measures 15"H x 23.75"L x 13"W. Original use as the Pay Chest of the CSA 47th Alabama Infrantry circa 1864.
LARGE IRONBOUND WOOD STRONGBOX. Military paymaster style. 24" long x 14-3/4" high x 13" deep. With metal reinforced corners and edges with recessed folding handles and iron bound with heavy straps around each end and a heavy hasp & ~ pie on the front. Painted in a dark 0D paint over old yellow pa "E.S." in old small nails on the lid. CONDITION: Good to v good. Retains about 1/2 the 00 paint. One hinge pin broken and a replacement screwed in beside it. Wilson Collection/David Gamble - Wilson Family recollection is that this was the 47th Alabama Purser's Box and also belonged to Great-Grandfather David Gamble. who used it in his store.
