This flag bears the black-white-red stripes of Imperial Germany, (also the colors of the Third Reich), with the white stripe defaced with an Iron Cross flanked by the dated 1944-1994.
Made for the 50th Anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6th, 1944, this design allowed the recognition of the German defenders without using the flag of the Third Reich, the swastika being still too painful a symbol for many.
Acquired by Ben Zaricor.
