U.S. James Buchannan Plate, 1871-1918.
Marked on the reverse "Made in Germany" under the arms of Lorraine within a stylized wreath. Lorraine was a French province until 1871, when after the Franco-Prussian War when it was annexed by Imperial Germany.
It was returned to French control after WWI in 1918. The date for this plate is the 47 year period between 1871 and 1918.
