U.S. Marine Corps, Hunter Killer Team, Khe Sanh.

Sub-collection: U.S. Marine Corps

U.S. Marine Corps, Hunter Killer Team, Khe Sanh RVN - Hooch Banner.
A hooch banner or flag is a generic term to refer to unofficial flags use by soldiers and units to decorate their living quarters. Also used to identify bunkers, dwellings, barracks, other facilities or military vehicles; the served as moral builders. They regularly include insignias, unit designations, patriotic slogans, or mottos. These were frequently gifts from home of U.S., state or other flags; but often these are macabre, with references and symbols of mortality.

The inscription on the flag reads U.S. Marine Corps, Hunter Killer Team, Khe Sanh RVN. The battle at Khe Sanh raged for 77 days from January to April of 1968. Official casualty figures for U.S. forces were 205 KIA, 1668 WIA and 1 MIA. The total enemy body count stood at 1602 KIA, with unknown WIA. The Marine Commander at Khe Sanh was convinced the U.S. destroyed two entire North Vietnamese Army Units.

It was acquired by private purchase in 2007 with a group of Viet cong and North Vietnamese flags.
