Map prepared under the brutal Siege of Badajoz during the Napoleonic Wars.
This hand-drawn, and hand-colored map was prepared during the brutal siege of Badajoz (16 March to 6 April 1812), during the Napoleonic Wars. The siege was one of the bloodiest of the entire conflict and was fought between the Anglo-Portuguese Army under the Command of the Earl of Wellington and the French garrison under General Armand Phillipon.
This map was the personal property of English General William Carr Beresford (1768-1854) who served during the campaign. Accompanying the map is an autograph of the general from 1837, after he had become Lord Beresford.
