Sub-collection: General George A. Custer

Harper's Weekly, issue of the 12th of November 1864.
This issue featured General George A. Custer in the cover illustration. Entitled, "General Custer Presenting Captured Battle Flags at the War Department, Washington," the engraving depicts Custer presenting the Confederate flags captured under his command.

Harpers Weekly, subtitled "A Journal of Civilization," was published weekly in New York City from 1857 until 1916. During its heyday, in the last half of the 19th century, it was one of the most influential papers in the country.
Besides the cover story about Custer, the other major articles in this edition are the recent statehood for Nevada, and allegations of fraud by the Democrat Party in the recent 1864 US Presidential Election.
