Little is known about the history of this Japanese flag. It was acquired as a GI bringback on eBay. Possibly a hinomaru yosegaki; it was sold with a Phillipine national flags as a soldier flag During World War II, it was common for a Japanese soldier to be given flags by loved ones. The flags were based on the Hinomura or the National Flag of Japanese. The soldiers name, the names of his family and loved ones, prayers and inpirational messages wouold be inscribed on the flag. The solidier kept the flag with him at all times.
