German Fireman's Helmet - 19th Century
This is a German helmet made of metal and leather. It is not military, but rather for fire-fighters.

The German writing on the helmet plate reads "GOTT ZUR EHR DEM NAECHSTEN ZUR WEHR" ( For the Glory of God we care for the others). A motto commonly found on fire fighting equipment and insignia.
