U.S. 48 Star Anticipatory Flag.

A rare 48 star staggered row design made prior to the inclusion of the 47th and 48th states joining the union. This flag was made in 1903/04 for the donor's grandfather - Charles W. Hecklinger of Mount Vernon, New York. It has the rare off-set star pattern used briefly on 48-star flags(1912) before the the block star arrangement was standardized.
