60. 9/11



The 9/11 terror attacks on the United States? murdered 2,996 people and injured over 6,000 while collapsing the twin towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York and a section of the Pentagon in Washington D.C.?  The rubble of the WTC was the center of an extensive rescue and recovery effort manned by volunteers who came from across the nation to aid in the effort.

The most significant flag in this Grouping is a U.S. 50-star flag that was recovered by one of these volunteers, still smoldering, from the ruins of the South Tower of the WTC in New York.? 

Complimenting this debris field recovered flag are two flags from the â??Pride of?  Mid-Townâ? The Pride of Mid-Town, Battalion 9 of the Fire Department of New York.

The universal outpouring of grief form the nation manifested itself in mourning rituals and included here is the flag that was placed on mourning for the victims of 9/11 at the City College of New York.

Accompanying the flags in this Grouping are the clothing, tools and personal effects of the fireman from the recovery operation and some 9/11 associated with the memorialization of the events of 9/11.

The denouement of the Grouping is a flag representing the U.S. Navy Seals, the elite counter terrorist unit that on May 2, 2011 found and killed Osama bin Laden, the founder and head of the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda, the mastermind the attacks of September 11th.
