85. International Treasures - The People's Republic of China



The use of red flags has been ubiquitous in China since the 1949 Communist victory. It infiltrates almost all aspects of national symbols and their use is public, political and prolific. This Grouping presents a rare opportunity to study Chinese flags � that encompass; Flags of National Character; Organizations of the Chinese Communist Party; Chinese battle flags from border incidents at Zhen Bao Island along the Sino-Soviet border and at Laoshan, Yunnan Province along the Sion-Vietnamese border; Flags & armbands from the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966 to 1976); and, flags from Chinaâ��s Special Administrative regions.

Chinese flags, while common in China are uncommon in the West, especially items relating to the Cultural Revolution, whose significance, while not lost on the Chinese are slowly being forgotten in a modern and dynamic China as the still communist, one party state, comes to embrace the 21st century.
